Let’s Bust That Myth
Let’s get one thing straight — the Labor Department and Industrial Court are not a charity for disgruntled employees. They don’t hand out justice like free samples at a supermarket. If an employer has done everything by the book — fair process, proper warning, genuine reason — the system does not hesitate to rule in favour of the employer.
Plenty of bosses have walked out of court smiling, especially in cases like:
•Dismissal for misconduct (Hong Leong Equipment v Liew Fook Chuan)
•Valid retrenchment (Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor v Zaid Mohd Noh)
•Non-renewal of genuine fixed-term contracts (Hewlett Packard v Nurul Syuhada)
Truth is, employees lose cases too — especially the ones who think “saya ada hak!” is a magic spell. It’s not. Justice listens to facts, not feelings.
So no, the labor office doesn’t wear a “Team Worker” jersey. It wears a robe — and it weighs both sides.
